Beating Winter Skin

Each season brings its perks. Spring brings about new beginnings, summer is vacations and long warms days, fall is my favorite season with crisp air and vibrant colors and then there is winter, blah. I am actually not sure what the perks are here? Winter in New England means snow, bitter cold and gray skies. All these elements take a toll on a girl’s skin. As the cold weather sets in so does dry, chapped skin. So how do I keep from having crocodile skin creep up? Here are some of my winter skin savers!

Even though you are likely outside less in the cold weather, wearing an SPF daily is still a must. Be sure to use a moisturizer or foundation with SPF to protect your skin. Because skin becomes much drier in the cold weather you likely need to switch out your summer moisturizer for something more hydrating and healing.

Not only does keeping your skin hydrated feel better, it also promotes skin health and beauty. Your skin will thank you tomorrow, and years from now. I try to hydrate twice daily, after my morning shower and before bed. Yeah, it’s a bit of upkeep, but it’s worth feeling good in my skin. Your morning routine should protect and your nightly routine should repair.

These are my favorite winter skin staples for staying glowing and hydrated through the cold and snow!

Clarisonic face brushI love love love this brush. It helps slosh away dead skin and makeup. I use it twice a day religiously.

Mario Badescu facial spray. I absolutely love this stuff. I use it in the morning and evening following cleansing, before I apply any other product. Your skin better absorbs serums and lotions when it is moist. You can also use this to set your makeup or just give yourself a refreshing spritz when your skin feels dehydrated.

Josie Maran argon oil. I use the light version in the evening all over my face and sometimes on my neck and chest.

Clinique all about eyes rich. I have been using this eye cream since my early 20s and now in my 30s I have yet to see a wrinkle set in around my eyes. I am obsessed. I use this morning and evening.

Embrolyisse crème concentrate. This lotion is ultra moisturizing. I tend to only use in the evening to give my skin a boost while I sleep. If you have drier skin consider applying in the morning as well, it works really well under makeup.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost. This oil free gel nourishes your skin deeply without a greasy feel. Great for your morning and nightly routine!

Image tinted moisturizer. Let’s face it, gray skies also equals swallow, pale skin. I love using a tinted moisturizer in the morning to even out and warm my skin.

Jergens BB Body. This body lotion is fast absorbing and has an a knack for evening skin tone and blurring imperfections. My pale winter skin definitely looks much better with a boost from this body lotion. It is also a winner of Allure Best of Beauty 2014!

Amlactin body lotion. Hands down this is the best winter defense I’ve discovered. This potent lotion has alpha-hydroxy in it, which gently exfoliates. It truly relieves and heals dry skin. Apply it all over your body before bed and wake up with beautiful skin in the morning. A note of caution, it can sting a little if your skin is super dry. This lotion seriously changed my life!

Burt’s Bees bee wax lip balm. I love the original one and keep this on me at ALL times. I cannot stand the look and feel of dry lips, yuck!

Wishing you a warm, cozy & hydrated winter!

Loves, V
