Styling a Wardrobe Staple: One Skirt, Once a Week, for One Month

A pencil skirt is a classic silhouette, offering endless options for styling. In a darker color, it can slim and elongate the figure, making it a chic and versatile wardrobe staple every woman should have in her closet. After my recent course in style coaching, I’m approaching shopping differently. Not only do I have to love how I feel in the item, but I should have at least three items in my closet that I can wear it with. When I came across a navy pencil skirt at J Crew, I knew it would be a great alternative to my black skirt for the summer months and allow me so many options. I decided to put to work mixing it up, the goal was one skirt, once a week, for one month! Given how versatile a pencil skirt is, finding ways to wear it weekly for a month was a breeze.

The first week I paired it with a cute blue and white striped t-shirt with a sequined cherry. I wore a pair of navy espadrilles from J Crew that are so comfortable, it was hard to not want to wear them with the skirt the rest of the month! These espadrilles also come in tan and I am so tempted to buy those too!

Week two was a classic menswear-inspired button-down balanced with feminine accessories.

Week three is my favorite look! I received so many compliments on this adorable green and white gingham blouse. It’s sold out at J Crew but I have linked below to a blue and white version that is equally adorable. The wedges I wore with this were also super comfortable! Coming up on week four, I wanted to change up the preppy vibe and have a little more fun with the simple skirt. This bird blouse from Ann Taylor added a touch of the tropics, with fun pink earrings and fuschia wedges.

Since July was 31 days, I threw in a fifth outfit (I promise I took the skirt to the dry cleaners!) For my final outfit I decide to go all blue!  I paired the skirt with a feminine light-blue blouse and these fun mules from Sam Edelman.

I loved styling this skirt! I will easily wear each of these looks again and have so many other tops to pair with this skirt, making it such a smart addition to my summer wardrobe!
